Blackberry Ginger Smoothie!

704

Let’s keep this simple. If you are headed out for ice cream on a hot summer day, take a pause. Nothing wrong with ice cream! But if you are trying to eat healthy and use the bounty of your backyard, try this cold blackberry smoothie. It could not be simpler. I won’t even bore you with a story. Let’s just make it!

You’ll need a 1 1/2 cups blackberries from your back yard (if you are jealous of my blackberry patch, you should be. It’s amazing! You can grow your own so easily by checking out this post)

If you are growing ginger, grab some! If not, grab some at the store along with one lemon, some greek yogurt, your favorite flavor of kombucha and some honey.

Freeze the blackberries! I harvest SO many blackberries every summer that I fill dozens of containers and stock my freezer for blackberry treats whenever the desire hits me. If you are buying blackberries (have I mentioned you should be growing them???), buy them frozen for this recipe.

Add the blackberries, one cup of kombucha, the juice of half of one lemon, two tablespoons of greek yogurt, and one teaspoon of ginger to your blender and puree until smooth and creamy. Now add the honey one teaspoon at a time.

Everyone has a different sweet tooth and I like this smoothie tart and bright and not too sweet. However, you may love it with extra honey, so add it by the teaspoon and taste as you go.

Seriously…you could be growing these!

This smoothie is not just delicious. It’s so incredibly good for you! Blackberries and ginger are both superfoods, packed with nutrients that are good for your heart and skin. Kombucha contains natural bacteria that are excellent for a healthy gut biome. You can absolutely use orange juice or club soda if you prefer, but you’ll forgo the health benefits of kombucha.

Whip this smoothie up and you’ll be treating your tastebuds and your body at the same time. Drink up!
