479

Warm, homemade bread in a terracotta pot? With compound butter? Yes, please!

Need a gift for a hard-to-shop for friend or a hostess who has everything? Here you go! This gift is as practical as it is beautiful. Add a bottle of wine and it’s the perfect gift that will be fun to make for a holiday dinner or set aside until the craziness of the season is over and can be enjoyed in the quiet peace of January. Either way, you’ll be remembered for this thoughtful gift from your garden

Here’s what you’ll need:

All purpose or bread flour

A little salt and sugar

A packet of yeast

Fresh herbs from the garden, dehydrated. My instructions for making wonderful herb blends from your garden is here

A terracotta pot

If you are including compound butter or favored oil, you’ll need a stick of butter or 3/4 cup of olive oil and more of the herb blend

For this gift, I am using my rosemary, garlic, lemon, and onion blend.

Ready? This is SO easy! In a plastic baggie, combine 3.5 cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of sugar. Tie the bag with a twist tie.

To make the butter, soften one stick of butter and mix in 1 tablespoon of the herb mix. Put the lid on and refrigerate until you are ready to deliver the gift. If you are including the oil, combine the olive oil with 1 tablespoon of the herb mix and top with a dispenser lid. You can buy them here. The cute bottles an be purchased here

Place some holiday tissue paper in the terracotta pot. Add the oil or butter…or both! Add a packet of Fleishman’s yeast and tie it up with a bow and a sweet note to your hostess. A bottle of wine to enjoy it with is never a bad idea.

If you give this gift, don’t forget to include printed instructions or just send them this link to my post about how to make this bread once you receive it. I promise, it’s easy!
